Swedish Heritage Night 2020

On February 20, the fifth annual Swedish Heritage Night took place as two hundred attendees descended on Capital One Arena to see the Washington Capitals take on the Montreal Canadiens! With a sold-out Swedish section rooting for our local team and the Swedish players on the ice, it was an evening full of excitement. Despite a stunning effort, our local team lost 4-3 in overtime but needless to say they put on an extraordinary show. For the team it is now on to the next one and of course the Caps have our continued support!

After the game the Swedes were joined by the Swedish Ambassador to the United States Karin Olofsdotter in a Q&A with the two Swedish players on the Caps team, Nicklas Bäckström and Carl Hagelin. Children in the audience had a chance to ask any question of the players, from how they celebrate Midsummer’s to what they miss most about Sweden! As the third biggest contributor of players to the NHL, the Swedish pride in its hockey tradition is needless to say not in doubt.

A big thank you to our partners in making this event a success, the Embassy of Sweden in Washington DC and the Washington Capitals!
